Dr. Elliott Vissia, a proud member of the Hupačasath and Nuu‑chah‑nulth Nations from Port Alberni, comes from a family rooted in community and resilience. His parents are Coleen Vissia and Clint Brydges, and he is a part of the Hamilton and Watts families.  Elliott began his journey in engineering, but he felt a deeper calling; to care for his people, support his community, and bring a positive, lasting impact to the lives of those around him. Elliott has practiced in several areas along Vancouver Island, and is now looking towards achieving one of his long-term goals; opening his own clinic in Port Alberni to provide safe, accessible care for all those living in the Alberni Valley. With support from NEDC, Elliott has been able to navigate the challenges of establishing his practice and securing funding. With his Nation providing a space for the clinic, it is now projected to open in Fall 2026.

Elliott’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to embrace every opportunity whether it’s building business skills, forming meaningful connections, or finding innovative ways to contribute to the community. At just 30, he enjoys the independence of being his own boss, the freedom to shape his work environment, and the ongoing challenge of problem-solving and collaboration that comes with the dental world. Elliott speaks to the need for dentists in Indigenous communities and is driven to be part of the solution. He hopes his journey inspires others to see that success goes beyond academic achievement. It’s fueled by passion, grounded in purpose, and reflected in a commitment to giving back to the community.
