Nootka Media Selected by Audible to Capture Indigenous Writers Circle

Victoria, BC - Just 16 months after launching Nootka Media, brothers Joey Byrne and Christian Enns are celebrating an exciting milestone: being selected by Audible, an Amazon company, to provide photography and videography for an upcoming Indigenous Writers Circle event in Vancouver.

The opportunity began at Web Summit Vancouver, where Joey was attending as a speaker with Indigenous Tourism Canada. During an Indigenous technology session, Christian gave a brief introduction to Nootka Media. That introduction led to a conversation with a representative from Audible and, ultimately, an opportunity for the team to capture the two-day event.

The Indigenous Writers Circle brings Indigenous writers and storytellers together through mentorship, leadership, workshops and storytelling practice. For Joey and Christian, being trusted to document an event centred around Indigenous voices makes the opportunity especially meaningful.

“It’s such a big opportunity to work with Indigenous voices and create an impact,” Joey says. “To be part of something this meaningful and help share these stories is really special to us.”

Joining Joey and Christian is Nootka Media’s Cinematic Videographer, Jordan Stradland. While Jordan is not Indigenous, his work with the team has given him opportunities to learn more about Indigenous cultures and the significance of the stories and gatherings they are invited to capture. That experience has helped shape the team’s approach to their work with respect, care and a deeper understanding of the communities they work alongside.

Since launching Nootka Media the team has built ongoing client relationships and taken on increasingly significant projects. For Joey and Christian, the Audible opportunity represents more than business growth. It is a chance to do the work they love while helping amplify Indigenous voices, celebrate culture and create greater visibility for Indigenous stories and storytellers.
