Building Holistic Reproductive Care Rooted in Community – Andrea Sanders, Lagoon Prenatal

Holistic Reproductive Health Services | Victoria, BC

Andrea Sanders is the founder of Lagoon Prenatal, a holistic health and wellness practice that supports women across all stages of reproductive health, including pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause. Her approach is informed by both personal experience and a gradual reconnection with her Indigenous heritage, which was not openly discussed during her upbringing. In her late teens, she began actively exploring this part of her identity. Her grandmother is First Nations, and her grandfather is a member of the Ojibwe of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. This process of reconnection, alongside her experience as a new mother, plays a central role in how she approaches care, storytelling, and community within her work.
Her interest in reproductive health began early, shaped by witnessing her mother’s pregnancies and the births of her younger siblings. At 21, she completed massage therapy training and entered the wellness field in client-facing roles, where she developed strong foundations in care and client support. A guest speaker introducing doula work marked a turning point, inspiring her to pursue DONA International doula training and transition into reproductive health. Her commitment to this work was quickly recognized by clients, who invited her to support them during childbirth.
In 2022, after experiencing burnout, business transitions, and an unexpected lease termination, she made the decision to purchase and rebrand her practice as Lagoon Prenatal. With support from NEDC, she stabilized her operations and secured a new space. Today, she leads a growing team, collaborates with midwives and other wellness practitioners, and continues to develop Lagoon Prenatal as a community-centered practice supporting clients through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.
