A proud member of the Kwakiutl First Nation and a fourth-generation fisherman, Marc Peeler carries forward a legacy deeply rooted in family, tradition, and the waters of Northern Vancouver Island. Born in Vancouver and raised in Port Hardy from the age of six, it has been home ever since. Marc learned many of his skills from his mother, Christine Hunt, as well as his father, Dale Peeler, and his grandfather, Hutch Hunt. The values passed through generations; patience, respect, and a calm, thoughtful approach continue to shape how he leads both in business and in life. This strong foundation led him to establish Confidence Fishing Company and Confidence Construction, along with ventures in kelp harvesting and aquaculture, businesses built on hard work, resilience, and the belief that confidence truly goes a long way.
Marc developed his business skills through hands-on experience working in his grandfather’s fishing company, where he gained a deep understanding of both the technical and people-focused sides of the industry. Over time, he expanded his knowledge into the financial and operational aspects of running a business, recognizing the direct connection between effort and results. He later went on to start his own business, Confidence Fishing Company, applying the lessons and experience he had gained to build and grow his own operations, with a strong focus on marketing, relationship-building, and creating mutually beneficial partnerships. For Marc, the most rewarding part of being self-employed is creating opportunities for others and supporting families in his community, something he takes great pride in. With support from NEDC, he has been able to turn his vision into reality and continues to look ahead to a bright future with growing opportunities across all of his ventures.
