Building Aerospace Success: Dorian Cota

Areospace & Aviation | Parksville, BC

Dorian Cota, founder and president of COTA Aviation, launched the company in 2012 with a clear vision: build a high-performance aviation business and help create the change the aerospace industry needs. In 2017, he was joined by business partner and CEO Kyle Kusznieryk, whose leadership helped scale operations while Dorian remained focused on technical excellence and hands-on execution.
Born in Fort St. John and raised in Qualicum Beach, Dorian developed a strong work ethic early through commercial fishing alongside his family. His path into aerospace was shaped by mentorship and discipline, leading him to train at SAIT, work in wildfire suppression across Canada, and earn his certification as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME), later achieving his Commercial Helicopter Pilot’s Licence. What began as a small operation steadily grew into a full-scale aviation company based in Parksville. By 2019, COTA Aviation expanded into a larger facility with key infrastructure, including an on-site helipad, positioning the company for significant growth. This momentum led to major opportunities, including work with Canada’s Department of National Defence and partnerships across the aerospace and defense sectors.
A proud Métis entrepreneur, Dorian integrates values of community, respect, and accountability into the company’s direction. COTA Aviation is committed to creating pathways for Indigenous participation in Aerospace and Defence, helping develop skilled careers in a high-demand industry. With continued support from NEDC, COTA Aviation has been able to access critical resources, expand operations, and accelerate its growth. Today, the company reflects a culture built on innovation, clear communication, and delivering on commitments with integrity.
