Iron Dog Books unique bookstore wins NEDC Best New Business 2018

Iron Dog Books is a mobile book store. YES, I said mobile!  This unique business is designed to provide a convenient and playful experience to get you your reading fix in areas that do not have a bookstore.  They get a lot of media attention since they started.

Hillary Atleo, of Anishinaabe descent, and her husband Cliff, an Ahousaht First Nation member own and operate Iron Dog Books.  Iron Dog Books is a bookstore on wheels selling used and bargain books in Burnaby and surrounding areas.

A deserving award recipient, Iron Dog Books gives back to their community.  20% of revenue from donated book sales is given to Nuu-chah-nulth and Indigenous Schools/Trusts and Fundraisers.  Leading by example, you are very deserving of this recognition.

Advice the owners are sharing with other entrepreneurs:

  • “Just keep swimming”,
  • find a way to get where you want to go, and
  • figure out the [financial] books before you need to use them.

Congratulations Iron Dog Books!
