Mentoring Program

Purpose
The purpose of the NEDC Mentoring program is to provide new entrepreneurs with additional support by ensuring that they have the support of someone with greater life and business experience during the critical early years of their business.

Goals

The goal of the NEDC Mentoring Program is to improve the chances of success for an entrepreneur's business by:

• Providing entrepreneurs with access to professional support, expertise, and feedback;
• Developing and implementing business goals; Broadening the entrepreneurs' network;and,
• Improving management skills and expertise

Eligibility

Protégé
All persons who have been approved for financial assistance and/or support from NEDC.

Mentor
All persons who have proven business expertise and are willing to share their experiences, knowledge, and professional support with a young entrepreneur.

Objectives
After one year of mentoring, the protégé should have a clearer understanding of the business environment, improved business planning and evaluating skills, a broader resource base, and heightened confidence in their ability to run their business.

Method
NEDC will:

• Help minimize financial barriers that may hinder a mentoring relationship;
• Introduce mentors & protégés; and,
• Support & encourage mentoring relationships

Process

If you are interested in the NEDC Mentoring Program:

• Potential Mentors: Submit a completed Mentor Questionnaire and resume to an NEDC Business Service Officer.

• Protégés (entrepreneurs): submit a completed Protégé questionnaire. If you already have a mentor, please let the Business Service Officer know your mentors name and contact information.
