Us
The Nuu-chah-nulth Economic Development Corporation
(NEDC) was incorporated in 1984 to assist the Nuu-chah-nulth
to achieve economic and social independence through the contribution
of financial assistance and advisory services to individual
and tribal business development initiatives. In 1997 eligibility
criteria was expanded to include all Aboriginal people residing
and operating within the Nuu-chah-nulth territory.
Vision Statement
To continue to develop and grow to be the best Aboriginal Corporation dealing with financial, banking and business development services which will play a major role in helping Nuu-chah-nulth communities become healthy, wealthy and socio-economically independent by seizing all existing and emerging opportunities and building on the new economy.
Purpose
The Nuu-chah-nulth Economic Development Corporation is a regional organization operating a variety of programs to encourage rural economic development and entreprenuership. It is incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act as a not-for-profit organization. The corporation is exempt from income tax under section 149 of the Canadian Income Tax Act.
Corporate Structure
The Board of Directors
The operations of the Nuu-chah-nulth Economic Development
Corporation (NEDC) shall be governed by the Board of Directors
of the Corporation. The Board is comprised of 20 members,
one from each of the 14 member Tribes of the Nuu-chah-nulth
Tribal Council (NTC), 5 members-at-large and an appointee
from the NTC, normally one of the three Co-chairpersons.
